Peripartum access to care in Mozambique: Opportunities for reducing maternal mortality

Women's health is prioritised in national policies and strategies Mozambique. However, only 34.1% of women start antenatal consultations before the 16th gestational week attend at least 4 visits – reported lack easy access to facilities contributing late initiation care. Data from Mozambique National Audit Committee maternal, perinatal, neonatal deaths demonstrate institutional maternal mortality ratio increased 81 per 100 000 live births 2016 84 2019, highlighting need for greater surveillance a vigorous response this increase. In Mozambique, there are opportunities improving quality peripartum care reduce morbidity mortality. Research needed uncover major causes morbidity, particularly role cardiovascular disease.
